Boulder City is a beautiful high oasis in the desert (elevation 2500) with green lawns and clean, tree-shaded streets overlooking Lake Mead and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The city is five miles from Lake Mead, eight miles from Hoover Dam and 21 miles south of Las Vegas, the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” The City of Boulder City is known as the city that housed over 4,000 workers during the construction of Hoover Dam, which lasted from 1931 to 1935. The town is still home to many of the original Dam workers, fondly called “31ers” and their families. The city was supervised and regulated by the Bureau of Reclamation and all land in and around the city was owned by the federal government.
